We hatched out 3 chicks of our own - all were roosters. We latched 20 Easter Egger chicks onto two broody hens. The original 45 hens were sold to Hmong families who would butcher them (we got married this year so I had no time to butcher 45 hens!).

2019 - I swapped the original 45 ISA Browns for 45 actual pullets (also ISA Browns).

I reported the seller and learned my lesson! Total chicken count: 95 chickens. I was told they were pullets but they were 2 years old and past their laying prime. These 45 hens ended up being sold to me on false pretenses.

2018 - I added 45 ISA Browns for egg production purposes in order to keep up with demand at our farmstand, which we launched in the early spring.

We ended up having 11 roosters and I learned how to butcher chickens in the Fall. We built our A-frame Chicken Tractors to house the expanded flocks. 2017 - I added 30 additional chicks, including Australorps, ISA Browns, and Golden-Laced Wyandottes, and Blue-Lace Red Wyandottes.2016 - I started with 8 Silver-Lace Wyandotte chicks, then added 3 white Wyandottes, and lastly an Olive Egger Rooster so we could hatch out our own chicks.So how did we integrate chickens over five years on the homestead?
